The patch as of March fixes many of the complaints in the other reviews. I figured I was going to be so disappointed in this game but surprisingly I'm playing 4 hours sessions. Damn you socom. Graphics could be better and there are some frustrating gameplay quirks as with any game but you learn around.
This game has a lot of potential, but has 2 huge limitations. It is online only, which limits when and how you can play. It also lacks a basic mission mode and a decent set of instructions, which makes for a steep learning curve. Not very fun.
I just purchased this game a few days ago even though I heard it still had a lot of issues. I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys realistic shooters. If you decide to run and gun you will probably get shot and killed, there is no respawning either, so you have to make sure you stay alive.
First off I didn't notice any lag at all, and I couldn't find any issues with this game at all. Also I really like the fact that almost every socom player has a headset, and people actually do use it while playing socom. It will take up quite a bit of space on your hard drive, roughly 3 gbs, luckly I have a 250gb hdd.
Usually what my team does, we usually stick in packs of 2 or 3 just in case we need backup. If you're a fan of great graphics, than this game is not for you, but the gameplay is superb. You do have to have some sort of strategy before you get the mission started.
The headset comes in really handy especially if you decide to travel in packs. Feel free to add me to you're PSN friends list if you wanna play socom PSN ID: solid_snake3656
You got to know when to move and when to sit on a tactical location.and be careful.someone can always be waiting around the corner. The maps are large, the corners, second floors, hill tops, and hinden corners, are vast.
The control set-up is good, not great. The graphics are good, not great.
What is great about this game is that its not the typical run and gun game. Online play is good, not great, due to the b.s.
you have to agree to, in order to get to online play.BUT. You best be tactical, I mean really tactical on how you get around.
If your a true hunter of large game in the forest, you'll love this game; but if your a run and gun type, skip this one.
At first the only way you had available was to message people (through the PS3 messages) & tell them where to go. 4 are new but 3 of them (Crossroads, Desert Glory & Frostfire) are just updated maps from the past. You have Demolition, Suppression, Control, Extraction, Escort & Breach. I want some actual new maps.
That's a bummer. Over 3 months into the game now & there's still been no word on any future add-ons.This game is only playable online & the lag is quite ridiculous most nights. They always seem to be working on this problem but still don't have it fixed.Being able to follow people is a pain. I've been playing all the Socom's since Socom 2 & although the maps keep getting better they just aren't getting the rest quite right. In Confrontation you only get 7 maps. You can make your own rooms but they will be unranked.Overall I still enjoy this game but I think they're dropping the ball. Yes, you can send invites but that's a pain as well because you can only send while in the lobby & that's if you have time after the screen finally loads.I enjoy playing most game types.
A new type for this game is Elimination where you can't win a round unless you eliminate everybody on the opposite team. No vehicles.
For me it's still fun to play with all my clan members & friends & that's what makes the game great for me. I enjoy the updated maps but I think they should've been add-ons at a later date.
& you can't make ranked rooms. They've changed it a little bit so now on the main PS3 screen you can kind of see where people are.
There are only so many spaces though so if they are in a long titled lobby & room then it's still not possible to know exactly where they are. There are some pre-set ranked rooms but it gets pretty old playing the same stuff over & over & getting stuck with night maps all the time.
I would still recommend this game.
